Yesteryear Collection

The Golden Gallopers carousel on Brighton seafront was built in 1888 by Frederick Savage in King's Lynn. It originally toured northern England for over 20 years before being sold to an American collector and shipped to the USA. In 1990, it was brought back to England and restored by Mr. Corbin from Wiltshire.
Owen Smith bought the carousel in 1997, and it has been a regular feature on Brighton seafront every year from Easter to September since then. At the end of each season, it's taken apart for six months of essential maintenance, including safety checks, repairs, repainting, and re-varnishing.
The Golden Gallopers remains a much-loved attraction-rain or shine. It's frequently photographed, has appeared in several films, and is now run by Owen and his son, also named Owen, who hope to keep it delighting visitors for many years to come.
